Due to recurring problems encountered with club institutions MakoTrac was forced to organise all race meetings from 2003 on its own. Changes in the administrative face of an organization can change a club’s entire concept and policy. Whilst under the proviso of a normal understanding of the democratic process such changes can be accommodated, small groups tend to tear themselves apart and basic premises, which generated a group interest in the first place, tend to be forgotten and ultimately abandoned. This can be detrimental to the sport of kart racing and cannot be tolerated over a longer period of time.
Groups of racers need to have a clear management structure and a business understanding in place. This will help to weed out any disruptive discord. Safety is a core issue that requires strict implementation without compromise. The fun of racing is a priority and politics should have no place in negatively impacting on it.
Over the last 5 years MTR has gained a lot of experience with the Go Kart Action concept of karting. More than 100 000 customers from all sections of society and all age groups have enjoyed their kart racing under a policy of structured management. As a result of strict safety rules and their implementation there have been no recorded accident in the last 5 years.
This same Go Kart Action management will, in future, organize all MTR activites, for go karters and other events. Everyone is welcome to join their individual racing class. MTR will organise up to 12 race meetings per year. A points system will be introduced to award recognition of achievement.
There are no regulatory limits as to engine performance. Presently the fastest kart is a 300cc 4-stroke rotary engine, producing 50 hp. The smallest kart is a Bambini class 2.5hp 4-stroke Honda, achieving a top speed of 65km/h which is suitable for kids from age 4.
MTR will also conduct race schools on regular basis for kids from 4-6 years and also for the Junior class (7-15 years).
