MakoTrac has a proven record of success in race tuition for young drivers, having conducted a comprehensive race school since 2001.  Most went on to participate regularly in race meetings at MakoTrac in their respective Bambini and Cadet classes.  Thanks to a well structured and comprehensive education, not a single accident was recorded in well over 30 race meetings involving students.  Karting is the fastest growing and safest form of motor sport, and is generally considered the hatchery for the world’s best Formula 1 drivers, such as the Schumacher brothers, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Frentzen, Herbert, Button, Hamilton and others.

MakoTrac has developed a step-by-step introduction to go-kart racing.
Kids from 4-6 years use a modified race kart, equipped with a 4-stroke 50cc 2.5hp engine.  A fleet of 6 karts at MakoTrac has different seat sizes to adapt to individual requirements.  Safety is important and the karts are equipped accordingly with disc brakes, a steering wheel mounted kill switch for immediate engine shut down, remote controlled engine immobiliser, and specially designed rear bumper bars made of non-splitting plastic material.  A standard adult race kart is available to kids from 7-15 years.  It is specially modified with an extendable pedal and seat arrangement and offers identical safety features listed above.

Step 1: First Special Introduction Session
(Participants 4-6 years $30)
Introduction and assessment of participant, comprehensive tuition in stationary kart, 8 minute race session under close observation.

Step 2: Second Session
(Participants 4-6 years $23)
The second session is available after successful completion of introductory session.

Step 3: Race Course A
(Participants 4-6 years $90)
Saturdays 2-5pm, advance booking required. Five 8 minute race sessions, instructions in racing line, braking and fast cornering techniques, flag signal interpretation, slalom training etc.

Step 4: Race Course B
(Participants 4-6 years $210)
2 day over 4 weeks, Saturdays 9-5pm, advance booking required. Trophy and certificate on completion entitling successful participant to complete in MRL (Motor Racing League) race meetings at MakoTrac. For participants wishing to continue further, 4-stroke Bambini class karts may be purchased at a cost of $4100 (subject to change), leased by, or hired per MRL race meeting at a charge of $80 (incl. transponder, $20 MTR race nomination fee extra.) Step 4: Driving School for Juniors
(Participants 7-15 years $90)
Saturdays 2-5pm, advance booking essential. Min/max 6 students. This programme will tutor young drivers in the correct racing line, slalom driving, cornering speeds, emergency and soft braking techniques, parallel driving at low speeds, flag signal interpretation etc. This course is designed as a first stage for further driver education for road and race track.
